Housing and Planning

Sunday 14th September
An estate of mind: does new housing have to mean soulless neighbourhoods?

Liberal Democrat Conference 2008 - Bournemouth

CABE

18:15-19:15
Clifton Suite, Hermitage Hotel

This event focused on housing supply and neighbourhood quality. For all the success in the 1960s in delivering the numbers, much of the housing that was built is now unpopular, some abandoned and demolished. Creating places where people want to live fifty years from now means building communities as well as houses. The event acknowledged that we need to build 3 million "units" but also asked: if we really want to learn from the mistakes of the past, wouldn't we rather build 10,000 neighbourhoods?

Speakers and panel: Lembit Opik MP (Shadow Minister for Housing), Adrian Harvey (Head of Public Affairs, CABE), Stephen Stone (Chief Executive, Crest Nicholson), Joe Kerr (RCA)
