Labour Conference 2008 - Manchester
08:00-9:00
Lancashire and Cumberland Suite, IoD Hub, St Peter's Square, Oxford Street
This event looked at the crucial role of businesses in city leadership. New financial powers for cities are now on the table - and trust between businesses and elected leaders will be key to making them work. What do councils need to do to earn the trust of their corporate counterparts? Should business leaders have more faith in them, given the independently-audited improvement in councils' performance? How can both parties build on the growing consensus for devolution, and work together to improve city economies?
Speakers and panel: John Healey MP (Local Government Minister), Angie Robinson (Chief Executive, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce), Sir Richard Leese (Leader, Manchester City Council), Tom Bloxham MBE (Chair, Urban Splash)
Chair: Dermot Finch (Director, Centre for Cities)
